When I started this journey of becoming an entrepreneur with push of God and seed of faith my plan said one thing, reality said another. Coming from a world of manufacturing, tig welding, shop work, I was hoping to continue in that line of work and get business from my former employers. When I set out I got the answer of no a lot. Having already committed to my goals I kept going, only with the necessity of knocking on doors to build a clientele. The road that this led me to was the world of residential construction. How God works at times is when you cry out to Him He will answer in the least expected way possible. I received a call from a friend and former co worker that had a brother in the Lord that needed some welding help. Turns out this guy owned a stair company. He was in a pinch and needed some help. I was able to do some contract work for him while being introduced to the $6 Billion industry and world of Handrails. This experience and introductory expedited my learning and a new lane of work that would help us grow as a business. I only did work for this company for about a month then he found someone fulltime. This experience gave me enough experience and confidence to add this to my work menu and pursue this type of work. It was also a season the Lord used to sustain the business early on.
Fast forward to the first job that I received for handrails. Note that my experience with the railings thus far was just building railings. I had a handwritten blueprint and cut list. I would fabricate and weld. No installation and no measuring. When I was fully committed and had a job to do I quickly realized that I didn't have all the information I needed to build a railing correctly and according to code. I could build the railing but not to code. That's when google was summonsed (is that a word?) and information was sought. That's when we found out that the information was not a direct shot, and not always clear. After that one each new project brought about a new challenge and new code question.
After 5 years in the handrail game we are proud to release our new ebook, "A Welder's Guide To Handrails And Railing Codes."
This book touches on our story, but more importantly, it gives all the information that you would need to build a steel handrail and it live up to code in any city or state in the country. Why is this book necessary? You shouldn't have to fumble through the internet getting sent to this site and that site in pursuit of the information that is vital to your livelihood. Here you have it in one collection. The 4" Rule. The 1 1/2" Rule. And other necessities when it comes to codes as well as bonuses like the tools that are needed and are cheat codes to the BIG BUSINESS of railing building.
